Gossip websites were abuzz this week with the emergence of new details from the divorce settlement between Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes.

After a widely publicized courtship, followed by five years of seemingly wedded bliss, the Katie Holmes shocked the world when she announced the surprise divorce petition in July. Perhaps most shocking, however, was the couple’s ability to arrive at a quiet settlement just two months later, after what many were predicting to be the knock-down, drag-out divorce of the century.

While the quickie settlement has fueled a number of rumours from custody battles to religious conspiracies, the couple has remained quiet about the particulars of their split. Life’s no (TLC-sponsored) day at the beach when you’re a divorced, unemployed father of eight – just ask Jon Gosselin. The reality star dad is back in the media this week after publicly complaining that he is struggling to pay rent due to his onerous child support obligation.

Even billionaires have baby-mama drama

The Canadian supermodel who famously said she doesn’t wake up for less than $10,000 a day is now seeking child support for her son, who apparently needs close to $1,500 per day.

According to court papers filed earlier this year by Canadian supermodel Linda Evangelista, François-Henri Pinault, the French billionaire fashion CEO now married to actress Salma Hayek, is the biological father of her five year old son, Augustin James, “Augie.”  Pinault also has two children from a previous marriage, and a daughter, Valentina, age 3, with Hayek.  Last week marked the beginning of a contentious trial in a Manhattan family court to determine the amount of child support Pinault will be required to pay Evangelista. Levi Johnston: “Tripp”-ing Up On Child Support Payments

According to TMZ.com, Levi Johnston has not been living up to his duties as father and owes over $38,000.00 in unpaid child support to Bristol Palin, the daughter of former Alaskan Governor Sarah Palin.

When the couple decided to separate, the court ordered Levi to pay $1,750.00 per month in child support.   However, it turns out that Levi Johnston has not contributed towards his son’s support since June 2010, approximately 22 months ago.

The issue of unpaid child support is, unfortunately, one that arises frequently in family law.  The paying parent, who shirks his or her responsibility to contribute towards a child’s support, is in actuality robbing that child of his or her right to support.  A child should never be made to suffer the consequences of his or her parent’s divorce and/or separation which is why there is a zero tolerance policy on involving children in adult conflict as well as a legal requirement of ensuring that decisions are made in accordance with the best interests of the child. Un-‘Seal’-ing the Deal: Seal Files for Joint Physical Custody

On January 27, 2012, we reported that Heidi Klum and Seal had decided to end their marriage with Heidi filing documents with the Los Angeles Superior Court.  In those documents, Heidi requested joint legal custody of the couple’s four children (three with Seal and one from Heidi’s previous relationship) with visitation rights for Seal.

Ex-NFL quarterback superstar Troy Aikman is divorced after a 10-year marriage, and just like the many defensive players he faked out en route to three Super Bowl titles, no one saw it coming.

According to TMZ.com, Aikman and his now ex-wife Rhonda were granted an Order for divorce on April 12, 2011.  Their separation was public knowledge, and they even released statements regarding their commitment to their two children back in January 2011. Read More…
